Jesus’ response to His disciples presents a lesson for us all, not only concerning His second coming, but also about how we should approach any life-changing event. He placed greater emphasis on the activities, occurrences, and processes that precede that great day and warned them to be vigilant, faithful, wise, God-confident, and above all, to watch and pray. Are we any closer to that great day after COVID-19? Is the Church now vigilant in the face of the unexpected outbreak of war in a previously peaceful world? Has it become wise to the hints of a dismantling monetary system and shifts in the power structure to which we have grown accustomed? Are we paying heed to the increases and unpredictability of natural disasters? Of even greater importance is our role in ending Gospel poverty where He has positioned us. Let us be mindful we are to watch, pray, and be ready when that day finally arrives.
