A few months ago, I was invited to a meeting of international women to celebrate the birthdays of all those members born in March. Although it was not the subject of the meeting, someone asked how old I was, to which I replied, “On March 3, I turned 51, but on June 3, I will turn 52.” My answer caught people’s attention, and several women asked me how I could have two birthdays in one year. I replied that when I say my age, I consider not only the years of birth, but also the nine months of intrauterine life. I consider that during that stage I also existed, I was a person, and I was living a stage of my life that was also transcendent and important. This answer moved more than one woman in that meeting to talk about the value of life from the moment of conception. They all agreed that intrauterine life is life, that we are people during that stage, and that we must defend it and do everything we can to contribute to the fight for life. We all agreed we must help and support women who are considering ending their pregnancies, but also speak and show God’s forgiveness and mercy to those who have already made that decision. Not only does God recognize the value of our life since conception, but the verse in Luke 1:41 shows John the Baptist, during his intrauterine life in the womb of Elizabeth, was capable of recognizing the presence of God and rejoiced in it. An unborn baby was the first to recognize Jesus as Savior and the Son of God.
