God our heavenly Father comes first in everything, including prayer. Prayer is both worship and asking according to God’s will. Our Father in Heaven is our God. We are mere finite men and women on Earth. We pray “our Father” because we have received sonship by adoption through the precious death, shed blood, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus. Thank God for His grace and mercy. We pray “hallowed be your name.” God’s name comes first. Let us pray that our lives will cause others to revere and honor God’s name. We carry God’s name. Christ must increase, but I must decrease. “Your Kingdom come” means that God the Holy Spirit rules and reigns in our hearts. We are also reminded to focus on eternity and not be distracted by the temporal. God’s Kingdom also speaks of our Lord’s second coming. Let us therefore obey Him in all things.
