Every time I read this passage of Scripture, I reflect on the three characters in the passage: the disciples, the children, and Jesus. I would imagine that the disciples would not have turned the children away if they could see a real need, such as an illness or demon possession. But in their minds, the children were fine and had no need for Jesus. I have found a similar challenge in my society, and in others as well — that unless we see a problem, we put the children aside. It is never too late to support the children in our lives. What Christ is teaching here is that our relationship with Him should never be needs-based, but people-based, and children are people. They are the future of the Kingdom of God. If we neglect to prepare them for Heaven while we can, a time may come when we will not have the chance. I encourage you today to bring a child to Christ and the same tomorrow and the next day.
