There are times when people don’t want to hear more about bloodshed. What something like this evokes is pain, fear, and hopelessness due to the extreme violence they have experienced. It is hard for them to imagine how a bloody sacrifice can be truly good news in the present. But that is what Jesus says. He is about to give His life on our behalf, and His death on the cross is the foundation for a new relationship with God. But why does this new covenant require the shedding of blood? This is a reminder that God takes sin and its effects very seriously. He does not ignore the evil we suffer, and He does not condone it either. It is a fallen world, and the only way to atone for sin is through a perfect sacrifice on our behalf. It is through Jesus’ blood that we can be reconciled with God and enjoy the peace and hope that He achieved on the cross. So, let us thank God for His unparalleled love.
