One of the greatest examples of forgiveness I can think of was displayed by Gladys Staines, wife of Christian missionary Graham Stuart Staines, who served the people of Odisha, India, from 1965 to 1999, until he was burned to death along with his two young sons. “I have forgiven the killers and have no bitterness, because forgiveness brings healing, and our land needs healing from hatred and violence,” Gladys said, displaying faith and unconditional, Christlike love. Forgiveness is unconditional (Col. 3:13). It’s a two-way street (Matt. 6:12). It’s a never ending process, the need to forgive and be forgiven (Matt. 6:14-15).
