Most Brazilians declare themselves to be Christians, but in fact, they live a religious life, but do not have a transformed one. Some ignore the presence of the Holy Spirit, others cry out to other gods, and less than half actually have their lives changed. If we think about the context of the time when people walked with sandals and the streets were dirt, their feet got dirty and they had to wash their feet to enter the house. Dirt represents sin. In speaking of Jesus, John the Baptist acknowledges that he was a sinner and Christ is holy. He also reminds us that water cleans and purifies the outside, but it is the fire that transforms from inside out. In order for there to be new life, we need the presence of the Holy Spirit. To be a truly Christian nation, we need to regret and repent of our sins.
