Many people in developing countries like Nigeria lack basic access to electricity. And where electricity is available, supply is often unreliable, with frequent power outages. Blackouts offer opportunity for crime to thrive as criminals often use the cover of darkness to carry out their nefarious activities. Light makes people’s deeds visible. However, wicked people hate the light because it detects and exposes their evil deeds, which they are reluctant to stop. Jesus is the Light of the World, but men have loved darkness to the extent that they consider the presence of God’s light distasteful and therefore reject the message of salvation. While the sinner thinks coming to the Light would only subject him to ridicule and shame, God offers redemption instead of condemnation to those who choose light over darkness.
