Crucifixion was the most heinous Roman method of execution. It was reserved for slaves and criminals. Deut. 21:23 reminds us the man hanging on the tree (cross) is cursed by God. Indeed, Jesus was cursed as He carried our sins upon Himself. In exchange, we inherited His righteousness. He who knew no sin, became sin for us to be righteous. He humbled Himself for us to learn humility. He was sacrificial for us to learn to sacrifice for others. We inherited privilege and also responsibility.
