The last day of the feast is when everything being celebrated would culminate, so it was appropriate for Jesus to make this bold declaration when He did. Its significance was not lost on the audience. Many were aware of the spiritual poverty prevailing, and the Lord Jesus intercepted their quest for fulfillment by shouting, “If any man thirsts.” That was the secret to experiencing the purpose of this feast: Thirst! It was said that a local sports team successfully competed and won against all odds because they were the hungriest. They wanted the victory the most. Jesus invited the thirsty to come! The pathway to end Gospel poverty (the thirst and the hunger) is to believe, as they did, in the early Church. If only believers today really believed the Scriptures, then they would turn the world upside down! But we don’t see the rivers of living water flowing because we don’t believe as the Scriptures have said.

The effective training and equipping led to strategizing efficiently in evangelism — to end Gospel Poverty.
