The Gospel of John is the book of the Bible which puts the most emphasis on the divinity of Jesus as the Son of God. It’s important to notice that in several different moments throughout his Gospel narrative, John makes reference to the time of day and the light conditions. Light enlightens, and therefore pushes the darkness of ignorance away. One of the most famous leaders in the history of Puerto Rico said, “La razón no grita; la razón convence,” which means, “Reason doesn’t scream, reason persuades.” When you’re speaking truth, you don’t need to be the one who yells the most. Light liberates us from our lies, our fears, and our ignorance. There are often times where we feel like the realm of darkness is winning. We may feel tempted to surrender and “throw the towel,” as we say in Puerto Rico. But science shows us that the speed of light is 300,000 kilometers per second. No matter how dense and powerful the darkness appears in a room, the solution is not to fight darkness with more darkness. We need to turn on the One True Light. It doesn’t matter how little the flame or the size of the lamp. As soon as lights appears, darkness dissipates!

Made me realize the importance of context in mission, evangelism, and leadership. Also, that no matter where you are, the Church faces the same two problems where it’s not being persecuted: nominalism and lack of unity.
