A few years ago, I was shocked when someone came to tell me with so much joy: “Tiana, we are no longer born again, we stopped going to that ‘born-again’ church and are now back at the other church.” I was sad and puzzled by this conversation. “Born again” has become a cliché, and some people do not even really understand what Jesus is saying in John 3:3. Being born again does not mean being a member of “born-again” churches — often referred to as Evangelical or Pentecostal churches in our country. Some think it is impossible to find born-again Christians in mainline churches, for example. The day you give your life to Jesus and invite Him to reign in your heart as your personal Savior, you are born again in the Spirit. Forsaking the evil way and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide you and live for the glory of God — that is what born again means.
