We are so often burdened with the difficult situations in life. We try to use our wisdom and strength, but fail miserably. Then we are emotionally disturbed and filled with fear, unable to face the situation. We ultimately stumble. I have been at that point several times in my life — with family, in the ministry, with finances, and in my responsibilities. The Psalmist David wrote this Psalm when he was emotionally drained, as someone close to him, probably family or a friend, had betrayed him. He realized that only God was able to carry his burdens and carry him, too. When David surrendered himself to God, he experienced God’s peace and protection from the enemy. Similarly, as we read in Matt. 11:28-30, when we come to Jesus, He will carry our burdens and give us rest. What is your situation today? All we need to do is come to Him by faith and learn to cast our burdens upon Him. God will sustain us and will never allow us to stumble. He is our sustainer.
