When we read the Bible, it is important to interpret it in the lens of the Gospel. The Gospel story is all about Jesus. Jesus, the One who came down from Heaven to Earth over 2,000 years ago, died on the cross for the sins of humanity, rose again from the grave, and is returning soon — this is what the entire Gospel story, what the entire Bible hinges on. He is the Promised Messiah, the Son of God, the Savior of the world. While we can begin with the reading of the Law and Prophets, in the end we must fix our eyes upon Jesus, the One who was, who is, and who is to come. The next time we know of someone who is reading the Bible, let us use every opportunity to direct that person’s attention toward Jesus, just like how Jesus directed the disciples’ attention to “in the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” For He is the One who matters most. Jesus, be the center of it all.
