I am a two-time devastating highgrade breast cancer survivor. In my journey with cancer, I prayed, had two surgeries, eight courses of chemotherapy, 28 radiotherapy applications, and 18 months of daily oral tamoxifen. God saw me through successfully. I was first diagnosed in June 2006 and again in November 2007. Throughout my battle with cancer, God’s Divine intervention enabled me to receive great support, care, and assistance from medical teams, my family, and friends. I benefited from an exemption of hospital fees for six months due to the very high cost of chemotherapy. I was not affected by our culture of abandonment and stigmatization, with the belief that cancer is infectious and husbands should resist their wives’ breast surgery. For 16 years, my yearly hospital check-ups have confirmed that God has perfected my healing and I have become a reference point, just as Psalm 30:2 says, “O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me.” Today, I minister to individuals and families, and through NGOs nationally and internationally.
